George William GARWOOD, son of Charles GARWOOD (c. 1862-c. 1937) and Elizabeth Eliza DIXON (1867-c. 1950), was born circa 1892. He was baptised on 29 February 1892 in Hingham, Norfolk - parents Charles (labourer) and Elizabeth. George joined the army on 25 August 1915, Private M2/119333, Royal Army Service Corps. He was a driver and served for 21 months on home soil and 21 months in France. He left Southampton on 4 September 1915 on board the S.S. Empress Queen, arriving in Le Havre on the next day. He had heart trouble which started on 14 May 1917, caused through strain from carrying shells, and spent time in 8th Stationary Hospital in Boulogne, 4th Southern General Hospital in Plymouth, and Sobraon Hospital in Colchester. He was demobbed on 30 March 1919, transferring to Class “Z” Army Reserve. George died circa 1938 - although date not confirmed.
